Luciana: Out of this World American Girl Contemporary Girl of the Year, Luciana, wants to be the first girl to walk on Mars. Luciana is a driven, focused, outgoing girl who has her goals in place. In this story, Luciana and her family are headed to Chile for winter break to see cousins and extended family. However, from the beginning, Luciana is so wrapped up in telling stories of herself and her accomplishments, her reception is less than welcoming. She had just been excluded by her cousins to go on a camping adventure, when she receives a surprise invite from 'frenemy', Claire Jacobs, from astronaut training camp to join her at the Mars habitat in the desert and watch NASA scientists at work. Torn between wanting to get close to her relatives and working with NASA scientists, Luciana chooses to give Claire a second chance. (Claire had been her partner at Space Camp in the second book and abandoned her in a diving drill in an underwater unit.) Luciana and Claire have their character and friendship tested. Eventually, the girls end up in a life and death situation and have to rely on each other for survival. Two strong women role models in the book, the grandmother and one of the NASA scientists, provide wisdom and guidance in formulating their choices and actions. In this story there are many moments of conflict, drama, opportunities for learning and reflection, and true friendships all set in the framework of science and Mars exploration. By Joan Schimmels, Penworthy Sales Representative If you're looking for a book that embarks on a uproar journey for Black History month, "We March" by Shane W. Evans is the pick for you. It's a great historical fiction story on how the African American community stood alongside other ethnic groups to fight for their own equal rights. This historical fiction picture book creates the tone and exhibits incredible illustrations on what it was like to prepare for a peaceful march and stand for equal rights TOGETHER. One mind, one body, one voice, which created unity and hope.

If you aren't excited about this title, we're certain your kids will be! "Is Dog Man bad to the bone? The heroic hound is sent to the pound for a crime he didn't commit! While his pals work to prove his innocence, Dog Man struggles to find his place among dogs and people. Being a part of both worlds, will he ever fully fit in with one?" Dog Man is the #1 New York Times Bestselling Series! By author Dav Pilkey, writer of Captain Underpants, kids can't get enough of this witty humor and colorful graphics. The New York Times calls it "LEGENDARY." Watch the Dog Man: Brawl of the Wild Official Trailer now! This is a terrific picture book story for children which features two main characters Little Bob, a small bunny and Big Bob, a large bear (aka “Scaredy Bear”). These two characters represent two different types of personalities that we are all familiar with. Little Bob is a fearless, risk taker despite his small size. When his mother warns him to stay out of the forest because there is a dangerous monster that lives there, he instead makes the choice to go out into the forest to look for the monster. There he meets a huge bear who is initially afraid of Little Bob. Little Bob names the bear Big Bob and they become friends. We quickly find out that despite Big Bob's huge size and the fact that he's a bear, he's afraid of just about everything. This story teaches about overcoming fear, finding the “big bear” inside that is fearless. It's also about understanding that those that are different may not be the terrible monsters we fear but may be a lot like us. It does this all in a way that is fun and accessible for children. And, finally, who can resist a buddy story about a giant bear and little bunny?
