Not only does Glitter, an adorable picture book by Stella J. Jones, tell a lovely story - but it's so pretty! There are bright and engaging illustrations throughout, and sparkly swaths of glitter on each page. (NOTE: the glitter does NOT rub or flake off, but kiddos can touch each glitter splotch for a fun tactile bonus.) The story centers on Gloria, a wonderfully charismatic rhinoceros whose favorite color is - you guessed it - glitter! She spreads her glitter and cheer wherever she goes: glitzing up the town's plumber, spangling the drummers and spritzing up the teachers until they all tell her "Enough is enough!" We all know how hard it is to get rid of glitter, and the town gets to work shaking, running, rubbing and twitching. They were grumpy before. Will they be even angrier now? No! Just like the glitter that was spread all around, the happiness traveled right through the town. Who doesn't like a little razzle dazzle every now and then?

National Library Week is coming up in just a month! We’ve rounded up some simple, low cost programming ideas to help enhance your library’s week of celebration and engagement:
And one of our favorite read-aloud picture books, Anne Rockwell’s Library Day, is perfect for National Library Week! The Best Easter Egg Hunt Ever! by Dawn Casey is a beautifully illustrated picture book with adorable characters and an uplifting story celebrating spring and Easter. The story begins with a little rabbit going on an Easter Egg hunt with his friends. Although quite excited and anxious to find a "special egg," he is patient and kind, and spends much of his time and efforts helping his friends find their eggs. The other animals in turn show their appreciation by giving him little gifts like flowers, grass, and feathers. It isn't until the very end that he finds a plain, white egg - which turns out to be the most special egg of them all. A wonderful springtime twist on the old saying "Don't judge a book by its cover"!
The author, Dawn Casey, was asked what she would like children to take away from the book. Her answer: “The magic of Easter time is the wonder and beauty of life returning to the Earth. I hope, in a simple way, the book celebrates the joy of the season." Happy spring!
