Did you know that November is both National Family Literacy Month and Picture Book Month? It's true - and what a great combination!
As the National Center for Families Learning says, "Family literacy is at work when two generations or more - parents, children, and/or extended family members – are actively engaged in learning together." The NCFL offers a resource page with educational tools and resources for families, and a page of resources specifically for educators.
Here's a helpful website that celebrates picture books every day of the month with posts from authors and illustrators on why picture books are so important. There are some great suggestions on how you can celebrate in your library, plus an activities section which includes a teacher's guide. And be sure to check out the handy list of picture book resources and links on the right hand side of the site.
