Lucky Ducky by Doreen Mulryan, is a brightly illustrated picture book about appreciation. Ducky feels he is an unlucky duck. He wants to change that to become a “Lucky Ducky”-- so he sets out in search of a four-leaf clover. Along his search, he is distracted by each of his friends, at different times, inviting him to join them in fun. Eventually he ends his search for his four leaf clover as he begins to realize, he is lucky already, because he has friends. In fact, this makes him “the luckiest ducky of all”! This is a fun, cute read for children because it re-enforces the importance of appreciating themselves and their friends, without wanting anything more! Sales Representative, Sajidah Darr

The One-stop Story Shop by Tracey Corderoy, Illustrated by Tony Neal A fabulously engaging, unpredictable picture book taking a twist on a tried and true combination- the knight and dragon. A brave knight heads out looking for his adversary, the dragon, for a wonderful battle. However, sadly he discovers the dragon has gone on a 2 week vacation. A neighbor suggests a nearby 'story shop' may have a dragon for battle, but to his dismay the shop is out of dragons. Perhaps a 'ferret' will do? The knight is skeptical, but the shopkeeper describes various adventures with the ferret— space, a western and an underwater adventure. As the scenarios unfold, the knight and dragon go from being opponents to partners against the evils of the universe forming an unlikely friendship. Wonderful illustrations and engaging text entertain children and adults alike. A magical, thought provoking winner for story time! This story, The Tide, is about the relationship between a young girl and her grandfather. They love spending time together at the beach having picnics, building sand castles and searching for sea shells. Grandpa sometimes has memory problems and through that, the young girl learns patience by reflecting on her own forgetfulness, like tying her shoes or where she buried her polar bear toy. I enjoyed this book because of the love that they share for each other and the understanding of what Grandpa goes through. It teaches us to be patient and kind to our family members and friends that experience memory loss in their twilight years.
