Monster Mash a Halloween Story adapted by Jenne Simon This fun little 8x8 story is perfect for Halloween and beyond. The Super Monsters are original characters to the Netflix TV series, which just began its third season on October 4th! The premise behind the series is that each of the preschoolers who attend Pitchfork Pines Preschool have a different set of powers and become a different monster at night. "Sun Down, Monsters up!!" is what they say when they turn into monsters at night. In this story, the monsters are throwing a Halloween Party and they quickly realize the town needs to get in the spirit of Halloween! The best way to do that is to make decorations. Each of the monsters uses their special powers to create a unique Halloween decoration. Upon delivering the decorations, the monsters meet a young boy, Albert, who shy, introverted, and scared of all the things Halloween. The story continues with the monsters each kindly and creatively engaging with young Albert, to show him that Halloween is fun and not nearly as scary as he thinks. I selected this book as my Penworthy Pick because of the positive central theme - befriend and include every one in the fun you are having! The story Is perfect to celebrate the Halloween holiday but also promotes inclusion, having positive fun on Halloween, making new friends and using unique and special talents. This book is an adaptation of a TV episode but would also be perfect for a live action skit for a fun Halloween story time event - or for reading in a small group story time!
