If you're looking for a book that embarks on a uproar journey for Black History month, "We March" by Shane W. Evans is the pick for you. It's a great historical fiction story on how the African American community stood alongside other ethnic groups to fight for their own equal rights. This historical fiction picture book creates the tone and exhibits incredible illustrations on what it was like to prepare for a peaceful march and stand for equal rights TOGETHER. One mind, one body, one voice, which created unity and hope.

This is a terrific picture book story for children which features two main characters Little Bob, a small bunny and Big Bob, a large bear (aka “Scaredy Bear”). These two characters represent two different types of personalities that we are all familiar with. Little Bob is a fearless, risk taker despite his small size. When his mother warns him to stay out of the forest because there is a dangerous monster that lives there, he instead makes the choice to go out into the forest to look for the monster. There he meets a huge bear who is initially afraid of Little Bob. Little Bob names the bear Big Bob and they become friends. We quickly find out that despite Big Bob's huge size and the fact that he's a bear, he's afraid of just about everything. This story teaches about overcoming fear, finding the “big bear” inside that is fearless. It's also about understanding that those that are different may not be the terrible monsters we fear but may be a lot like us. It does this all in a way that is fun and accessible for children. And, finally, who can resist a buddy story about a giant bear and little bunny? By Mike Gunn, Penworthy Sales Representative The Adventures of Violet and Dash: Book 1, Friend or Foe? This is a cute chapter book based on the movie The Incredibles 2. Violet and Dash may be part of the Incredibles and super heroes but they also have chores, homework and school, just like any other kid. Violet wishes her life could be NORMAL, but Dash wants life to be SUPER all the time. When some mysterious events happen at school, the siblings begin to wonder - are there other Super kids out there? And are these kids heroes or villains? The story is told in diary format with Violet and Dash alternating chapters in the same diary (since Dash kept reading Violets diary, she told him he could write in it as well). There are two books in the series so far and it is a great set for reluctant readers, as the diary format makes for a quick and easy read and the story moves along quickly alternating between the two narrators. It tells a story of how if you work together you can accomplish SUPER results! Kids will love the fact that it looks handwritten and has illustrations mixed in just like a normal diary would and of course who can resist a Super Hero story? By Nate Kovatch, Penworthy Senior Sales Representative New to the Penworthy Story-time Collection in October is the fantastic small press title, The Only Way is Badger by Stella Jones. Badger is the main character who is extremely relatable to even the smallest child. He is stubborn, rude, obstinate, loud, demanding, bullying and exclusionary. Badger feels the only right ways of living and being are to be more badger, to look like, live like, act like and be like a badger. One by one, he excludes every other animal from the forest by bullying them and then casting them aside for their own uniqueness. In the end of the story, Badger realizes he is all alone, and finally sees all the other animals had value too and having friends is more important than holding on to his bullying and exclusion. This Penworthy Pick is perfect for story time. Badgers demanding ways are great for read aloud exaggerations and make for a very fun and animated story time circle. This book is excellent for teaching behavior, character building skills, friendship and tolerance of others for Pre-K and up. By Kris Cunningham, Penworthy Senior Sales Representative I'm New Here by Anne Sibley O'Brien. This books is an insight of how difficult it can be to transition to a new country and to do it in elementary school. Kids have to work hard to understand language and customs. New alphabets in some cases, reading and writing are huge challenges. Making new friends can be also be a challenge with all of these other barriers. This book is written simply and shows the transition of adjustment. It is a necessity for kids to be exposed to this kind of story and it helps for them to be empathetic. So before her mother goes, her parents think that she needs to see a therapist to help her cope with all the changes. Her alter ego Daphne (who wears a pink wig on YouTube) says all the things Annabelle wishes she could. Her therapist challenges her to try new things, which is the theme of each book : Dances, Drama, Fashion, and Sports.
